Reflection

As a prompt from my coaches at Pacific Pine Running Co, I got thinking back to this past season of my running career. It has also been neat because in my own teaching I am looking at reflection as a tool in the professional field, and how we can grow from it. While the growth that can come from reflection is key, and is so powerful, I think that is what is often missed. We are great at looking back and feeling proud, regretful, or just finding ourselves glowing with the warmth of nostalgia, but we often struggle to see how we can learn from the moments that go as planned, or grow from the typical training blocks that led us to have a stellar race performance.

As I find myself in a moment of reflection as a runner and athlete, I know that I have learnt patience, grit, and have improved my mental fortitude. I have learnt balance and am still working on finding that inner calm that people talk about. I look back on my season and see a lack of races but a plethora of training; a season of flexibility and often just going with what my body is telling me. My reflections are helping me to plan my upcoming seasons and set my short and long term goals. I know that I will continue to learn and grow, and that the community of support around me is necessary in helping with my reflections and with my growth.

What have you learnt this season? Any plans for the future that have stemmed from your reflection?
